Seeing Red

Are you seeing red everywhere today?
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
I had to write about the colour red on Valentines Day for you!
I love the colour red, it’s actually one of my favourite colour drapes to use during a colour consultation as it’s so stark in contrast between each seasonal and tonal analysis.  Being able to show the tonal difference to a client is absolutely magical.  True Red is a beautiful jewel-toned red, that although reserved for the Winter palette, can be worn by everyone as it’s so pure. Your Summer red is a touch pinker giving it more of a raspberry red tone, your Autumn has a hint of brown making it a tomato red and for my Springs a pop of orange brightening the red but keeping it warm for your gorgeous skin tone.

How do you see red?

There are multiple meanings to the colour red, which makes it an interesting starting point as I am going to write a little more about the magic of colour for you over the coming months.
You must have heard of the saying “seeing red”?  The basic connotation of this phrase is that someone feels angry and is full of rage, yet conversely red can also mean the complete opposite evoking feelings of love, passion, seduction and sexuality.  It’s truly a colour of opposing meanings.
There are so many ways to look at a colour and understand its magic and power from colour psychology to colour spirituality to colour personalities to cultural meanings, to its use in filmography and the emotions we can feel wearing it or even the emotion it gives others around us.  Colour is HUGE, and when we wear it with intention it truly can affect how we are perceived in a first impression, it can positively (and negatively) impact our mood and it can brighten our wardrobes!
There is a little something called “The Red Dress Theory” which explores the effect when wearing red. It is said that if you are wearing red on a date, for example, you are more likely to be found attractive (there is a lot more to that but for the purposes of today’s blog you get my understanding!)

How do you wear red?

One of the easiest ways and a personal favourite of mine to wear red is by wearing lipstick!  A number of my clients comment during their colour experience they would like to wear a red lipstick but it doesn’t suit them – this is where I am happy to correct them!  Much like the colour drapes I mentioned about, there is a perfect shade of red lipstick out there for you.  I use the Colour Me Beautiful range of lipsticks as each makeup product is designed to a specific tonal type, these are my recommendations;

Light – Strawberry

Soft – Red Velvet

Cool – Cerise

Warm – Tomato

Clear – Strawberry

Deep – Red Carpet

If you are unsure which tonal colour category you fall into and need the perfect shade of red in your life, I will help you choose your perfect one! Just email me at hello@victoriahamiltonlifestyle.co.uk and we’ll go from there.

How do you clash red?

Red is such a fabulous colour on its own it doesn’t need much to accompany it.  That said, I have four personal favourite colours to clash with it.
PINK – technically these two are both in the same colour palette, so it makes sense they can go so very well together.  Depending on your preference you could choose the hot pink and true red combo (a personal fave of mine!) or you can go softer, with a blush and more of a burgundy red.  Still gorgeous.

SILVER – I always think silver lifts the red for a super glam luxe look, and is a great alternative to white.
ORANGE – the result of these two colours together is very much the same as the pink and red, however, if you have a warmer skin tone the orange and red will work much better and enhance your fabulous features.
NAVY – If you have worked with me, you will know how much I LOVE navy.  It suits 99.9% of all of my clients and is much more flattering than black, especially against the red, it’s not so harsh.  Navy to me is classic and feminine and just works.

There were some fabulous outfits showcased on Lorraine this week, check the video out HERE for some VDAY Outfit Inspo.

What a lovely post, love red and was always told as a red head that I can’t wear it but I feel fierce when I do 😀

Red is a colour that used to really struggle with. I now wear it when I either need to feel strong or comfortable in myself (different shades). When I’m wanting to hibernate I feel almost repulsed by red, really interesting!
